Recover Failed Google Play Subscription Payments
Google Play gives subscribers a grace period, but many still churn. Rezoki adds proactive AI outreach to keep more subscribers active.
About Google Play
Google Play handles in-app subscriptions for over 2.5 million Android apps. Google manages billing, retries, and provides grace periods and account hold states for failed payments. Developers receive Real-time Developer Notifications (RTDN) but have limited tools to directly influence recovery outcomes.
Built-in dunning: Google Play offers a configurable grace period (3, 7, 14, or 30 days) during which the subscriber retains access while Google retries payment. After the grace period, the subscription enters "account hold" for up to 30 days. Google sends notifications to the Play Store app but provides no developer-controllable dunning tools.
Why Google Play's Native Dunning Falls Short
Developer has no recovery tools
Like Apple, Google owns the billing relationship. Developers can't send dunning emails through Google's system, set retry schedules, or directly communicate with subscribers about payment issues.
Play Store notifications only
Google's failure notifications appear in the Play Store app — an app most users don't regularly check. If the subscriber isn't actively browsing the Play Store, they may never see it.
Account hold abandonment
During account hold, the subscriber loses access but the subscription isn't cancelled. Many users simply forget and never resolve the payment, leading to eventual expiration.
Fragmented Android ecosystem
Different Android versions and manufacturers handle Play Store notifications differently. Some users never see payment failure alerts due to notification management or battery optimization settings.
How Rezoki Supercharges Google Play
Direct subscriber outreach
When Google's RTDN signals a payment failure, Rezoki reaches the subscriber through channels they actually check — email, push notifications, or SMS.
Grace period + account hold recovery
Rezoki runs recovery sequences during both the grace period and account hold phases, with escalating urgency as the expiration date approaches.
Deep link to payment settings
Recovery messages include deep links to the subscriber's Google Play payment settings, making it as easy as possible to update their payment method.
Account hold re-engagement
For subscribers in account hold who've lost access, Rezoki highlights what they're missing and makes the path back to their subscription frictionless.
